This 9.9-second quarter mile ET (at 144 mph) electric sedan is being unveiled next Wednesday (9-9-20) by LUCID MOTORS, a Silicon Valley company that designs, develops, and builds electric vehicles. Powered by two 650+ HP 20,000 RPM motors and AWD, the “LUCID AIR DREAM EDITION” does 0-60 mph in 2.5 seconds! You can put $1,000 down to reserve yours now.
The LUCID AIR can “charge at rates of up to 300 miles in 20 minutes, and up to 20 miles in one minute, when connected to a DC Fast Charger, such as those offered by our charging partner, Electrify America. The Wunderbox (high voltage inverter) also enables a wide array of future-ready, bi-directional power delivery features from the vehicle to the grid (V2G) for situations such as managing home power outages. It can also enable vehicle-to-vehicle charging (V2V).”
Of course the projected 517 mile battery range – longest range EV to date with a 113kWh battery – doesn’t take into account those sorts of battery-draining quarter-mile speed launches, but hey, just recharge the battery more often! Lucid’s tech division, ATIEVA, has supplied battery packs for the new Formula E racing series since 2018, resulting in “a battery system of Lucid Air that delivers unparalleled safety and race-proven performance.”
