BEWARE of Poison Hemlock

Poison Hemlock has already sprouted this Spring

You may remember the story about Socrates drinking a cup of Poison Hemlock. Yup, same deadly stuff! Just coming into contact with it can cause you problems. More details about POISON HEMLOCK – Conium maculatum:
  • Brought to the US from Europe in the 1800’s.
  • Biennial herb that grows 8 to 9 feet tall (2.4 to 2.7 meters) tall.
  • White blossoms in late Spring are often confused with Queen Anne’s Lace.
  • Purple blotches appear on the hollow stems.
  • One plant can produce over 30,000 seeds.
  • Especially invasive along stream banks.
  • ALL plant parts are extremely poisonous to livestock and human beings, and remain toxic for years.
  • CONTROL: Pulling or Mowing (wear eye and skin protection) or herbicides.
