It’s not “that smell” Lynyrd Skynyrd sings about, it’s that funky odor you smell outside on these Spring days.
That funky odor caught my nose yesterday while out walking, shortly before I saw the Flowering Pear tree in the above photo. It’s the opposite of that ‘good nose odor’ of Flowering Magnolias, which would also be blooming if most of them hadn’t gotten hammered by a hard frost / freeze ten days ago.
So you might call it the yin Yang of Spring tree odors… Pear vs. Magnolia.
Some Pear trees seem to “out funk” the other ones, but all the Saucer Magnolias smell good!
