This was the year for us to finally go solar at our home and we’re loving it, what a great feeling! Since our solar system was installed and activated this Spring, we’re getting a good look at energy offsets during the summer months.
For example, thus far in August (which required a lot of air conditioning with hot, humid days) our solar system has provided a 67% energy offset, or two-thirds. So don’t listen to anyone who says “solar doesn’t work in Pennsylvania” because it does, even producing energy on cloudy days.
We initially considered a larger system than 3.3kW from our eleven solar panels, but opted instead to add “energy security” to the mix with a Tesla Power Wall backup battery. With the addition of the battery, our lights can stay on even if the electric grid is down.
For multiple reasons, including the declining federal tax credit over the next 3 years, it's a great time to take a closer look at self-powering your own home!
