Snow vs Solar Panel Production

Unlike most roof-mounted solar systems, our solar panels are within fairly easy reach of our deck. That being said, clearing snow cover from our solar panels requires the use of a 6-foot folding step ladder and an extendable roof-rake.

While I am not recommending that anyone should try this, I will graphically illustrate the awesome benefits, using yesterday as a shining example.

We got about 3-inches of snow on elevated surfaces Sunday night. Using the method demonstrated in my earlier video [Solar panel snow removal with roof rake] I put on my winter clothes and headed outside to clear off the bulk of the snow around 8:00AM.

Below is a graphic comparison of the effect my 20-minutes of work had on our solar production for the rest of the day. Bob
