Pine Panic

It’s that time of year for what I call “Pine Panic.”

More specifically, “White Pine Panic.”

It usually goes something like this: “My pine tree is turning brown and dying, what should I do?”

Chances are, the answer is “Nothing.”

White Pines shed some inner needles in Autumn, often causing a panic that they may be dying.

As we see on the White Pine (Pinus strobus) in the photo, the shedding of older needles is often a cause for concern, but nothing to worry about.

Pine needle mulch

Did you know those brown needles are good for mulching around Blueberry bushes? They lower soil pH and help hold moisture around the roots!
