City of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and Allegheny County Pa.

Historically known as the ‘Gateway to the West’ and the ‘Steel Center of the World’ Pittsburgh was named for William Pitt by General Forbes after the fall of French Fort Duquesne in 1758. Pittsburgh, Pa was laid out as a town by John Campbell in 1764, and incorporated as a city in 1816. The confluence of the Allegheny River and the Monongahela River form the Ohio River at ‘The Point’ in Pittsburgh which is also known as ‘The Golden Triangle.’
Home to the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Penguins and Pittsburgh Pirates professional sports teams, as well as the University of Pittsburgh, CMU, Duquesne University, Carlow University, CCAC, Chatham University and Robert Morris University. Pittsburgh Pa is also a major medical center with the Allegheny Health Network, UPMC and St Clair Health in the South Hills of Pittsburgh. Some residents consider themselves ‘yinzers’ and speak an English dialect known as ‘Pittsburghese.’
